Getting There

This walk was organised and led by Rob H as a CBC Wednesday walk:

Wednesday 12 October - Wednesday Walk (CBC) - M/R. (Cumulative height is approx. 600m, distance ~6km, some scrubby patches) This trip starts near the bottom end of Apollo Road, climbs steeply and follows the ridge on the southern side of the road to descend near Honeysuckle Creek Camp Ground. An interesting trip with views from some rocky outcrops. It involves a car shuttle. Maps: Williamsdale, Corin Dam Leader: Rob H. Transport: ~$8 per person Arrangements: Meet at Kambah Shops 0800hrs.

10 of us drove in 3 cars to the Mt Tennent fire trail car park on Apollo Road. We then put 2 cars up at the Honeysuckle Creek camping ground.

I'd been to Knoll 1 on 29 Jul 08, but we did not come in from the E. So I was keen to do this Wednesday Walk.

We puffed up the open hill from the car park and along the open ridge through the first couple of bumps to the NNP border. Continuing up, morning tea was taken at the 1170m contour. There was a very nice looking camping area just before morning tea (but you'd have to carry in water).

Some nice granite as we approached knoll 1 and the going became a bit closer. Rob promised us a view from a balcony. And that we had from a huge granite tor N of the knoll, with huge views from W through N to E.

We pushed on down and up to knoll 2, finding a pleasant enough lunch spot.

Barrie R was in the party, so I got lots of plants identified.

On to SH1364, then steeply down to the tanks. The fire trail took us to the cars at the finish line.

Distance: 7.1km Climb: 700m. Time: 9.05am - 2.50pm (5hrs 45mins), with 50mins of stops.
